In the North West Essex League, the Saffron Walden Bowling Club A team only came away with 3 of the 8 points available from their visit to Stansted. With one rink lost, the last two rinks came down to the wire and with Stansted grabbing an unlikely tie on one of them the other played out an exciting last end which was won when the first bowl bowled by Richard Hughes onto the jack remained unmoved seventeen bowls later!. The B team, away at Steeple Bumpstead, were buzzing. An emphatic 61 – 37 win across all three rinks saw them take home all eight points and move them to within one point of leaders Dunmow. A C team loss was a disappointment but some of the newer players involved gained valuable match experience.

Unfortunately, their was more woe on the road for the Essex and Herts Seniors team who lost away at Epping on Thursday afternoon with team members struggling to make it back for Queen night at the Carnival! The Friday night visit from third placed Thaxted to the Abbey Green in the Steeple Bumpstead League saw a surprising 0 -8 loss for the home side, denting their chances of putting late pressure on leaders Haverhill Town Red.

The Club are grateful to the Saffron Walden U3A members who have enjoyed their module on a Friday morning and become active members; some already playing in league teams.
