Mixed fortunes for the Town's bowlers

This is the third in a series of regular news articles from SWTBC. Owing to technical issues the first few are published retrospectively.
A mixed week for the Town’s bowlers as the first month of the season draws to a close. In the National Bowls Champion of Champions on Tuesday evening, Alix Rouse moved comfortably into the quarter finals of the Essex section with a 21-14 win but was disappointed a day later when the A team were beaten at home by a buoyant Dunmow side. A somewhat depleted side were not spurred on by sporting action elsewhere.
But the sun shone for the other three of the Town’s league sides. The B team showed great spirit with a 59 – 41 away win at Elsenham and find themselves top of the second division and on course for an instant return to the top division. Also at the top end of the table are the Essex and Herts senior team who smashed Thaxted 8 – 0 on Tuesday afternoon and on Friday, the Steeple Bumpstead league IX took on the Hawks from Castle Hedingham and won 8 – 2. They have also taken the top spot in their division.
The Monday socials remain popular and are providing a good grounding for newer members who can get experience amongst more established players. The talent pool is being extended this year with the U3A enjoying the facilities of the club on a Friday morning in an exciting module where the ‘students’ receive coaching from senior players.
