This is the sixth in a series of regular news articles from SWTBC. Owing to technical issues the first few are published retrospectively.

The biggest crowd of the season at The Lane on a sun-drenched Sunday morning enjoyed a clash of regional heavyweights in the Bowls England Top Club competition. As the two very close singles matches were lost by the Town’s bowlers it meant that all three other rinks had to win. This was not to be, so a very strong Braintree team came out winners: the Town’s dreams of getting to the national stages over for another year.

In the North West Essex league the A team had a very pleasing 6 -2 win away at Radwinter and kept their momentum going in a tight top division. Playing alongside side them at Radwinter, the B team, unfortunately, missed their chance to put pressure on the league leaders losing on two rinks for a 2 – 6 scoreline. The revival in fortunes of the C team continued with a comfortable 8 – 0 win at home against Stansted B.

Top honours this week went to the Town’s Essex and Herts Seniors team who ran out 8 – 0 winners against Quendon with John Parker, maintaining his unbeaten record as skip. Before this week’s round of games, the top five teams were separated by two points, so this win will have done their title hopes no harm at all.
