This is the second in a series of regular news articles from SWTBC. Owing to technical issues the first few are published retrospectively.

There was a festive atmosphere at Abbey Lane, home of the Town’s Bowling team, on Monday, with two of the rinks taken up with the National Two Fours and four rinks with the social ‘Roll Up’. A fine mixture of experienced players and new members, all enjoying the game in the warm evening sun.

In the first regional round of the National two bowl fours, the Town hosted a strong team from Bocking Alliance and got off to a great start: by the seventh end, the four of Messrs Rouse, Murphy, Carter and Hodgson were an amazing 20 points to nil up. At the 15th end and with rink two also wining, the visitors conceded the match. A very impressive 42 – 17 aggregate victory representing an extremely pleasing start to the national campaign.

But the Club came back down to earth with a bump later in the week as, by a strange quirk of the fixture lists, Stansted were the visitors at Abbey Lane on Tuesday in the Essex and Herts Seniors League and then again on Wednesday in North West Essex Division A division game. Before their departure, the visitors had recorded two surprise 6 – 2 victories giving their season a lift. There was more joy for the Bs who had a solid 6 – 2 win, also at home, to Steeple Bumpstead Bs.

The Steeple Bumpstead League Friday side continued their bright start to this year’s campaign with a regulation 8-2 win against the visitors from Balsham.
